Mission & history

In 1983 The Society established a scholarship program that has assisted many young performing artists of both countries. Called D.A.N.C.E (Danish American National Cultural Exchange) and inspired by ballet virtuoso Peter Martins and Royal Danish Ballet Master Frank Andersen, the program brings young Danish artists to the United States and sends young American artists to Denmark for training. Through the years more than 90 young artists from Denmark and United States have crossed the Atlantic to further their education, repertoire, and artistic skills through studies under the expert guidance of world renowned artists in New York and Copenhagen. During their training, the scholarship recipients have the opportunity to meet other artists, share experiences, learn new and different techniques, and enhance their general cultural understanding.

D.A.N.C.E is today the longest running continuous cultural exchange between Denmark and the United States.
